Reflecting on blessings

Today I am reflecting on a journey I began 2 years ago to Burundi Africa. This was my first mission trip and it left a huge impact on my heart. I miss my Batwa friends and think of them often. I have since been on a mission trip to Costa Rica and will be going to Haiti soon. I wanted to share a short video from my travels to Africa. I hope you enjoy this as much as I do.

Let's face it. None of us are perfect. We all have a past. We say things that are hurtful & do things we regret. Learning from past mistakes is a part of life. Repeating the same mistakes is a choice. Our past does not define us....but our present may. We are in complete control to make adjustments and changes to better ourselves and our future. There is no time better then now to make good on a promise, offer an apology for a wrong, reach out to a forgotten friend and mend fences.

As the saying goes.... "We want things we do not have to impress people we do not like". Interesting concept but unfortunately true. This seems to be the American way. If we drive the best car and live in the biggest home then maybe we will find happiness and be fulfilled. The problem is possessions do not provide happiness or fulfillment. In fact, it may bring the opposite when we realize we cannot afford to keep up with the masses.

I found the secret to having it all and want to share it with you. This secret is very simple and when applied you will find that your gratitude and appreciation for life will go up exponentially. Enjoy....and keep it simple!!

No Coincidence

Several years ago I took a day trip to Laredo Texas with one of my best friends. We knew it was not the safest place for two ladies to go; however, we braved it anyway. We made it in and out of Laredo with no issues. We even found some cool "treasures" that made our trip worth it in our minds.

We were staying at a ranch in Cotulla Texas. On our way back from Laredo to Cotulla my friend and I got into an intense conversation about religion and Jesus. We are both believers; however, my friend was questioning some things. Shortly into this conversation my friend said to me, "What would you say if we ran out of gas"? Thinking she must be kidding, I figured she was changing the subject. Unfortunately, she was not. We were out of gas and now stranded on I-35. It was 5:20 PM. My estimation was we had about 25 minutes until sundown and we are just shy of the Mexico Border. I am now in Panic Mode.

Within a few minutes a man pulled up in a Natural Gas Tanker Truck. He asked if we needed help. We told him we were out of gas and he offered to go to the nearest station and get us a gas can and some gas. We were thinking we would never see him again. As he walked away both my friend and I noticed he had a key chain on his waist with a silver angel on it. My friend and I made small talk as he drove away.

To our surprise the man came back with our gas. He poured it into the car. As he was leaving we offered him $20. He refused our money and told us to have a nice day. We were both relieved that we knew we could get to the gas station that was about 2 miles up the Highway. We stopped and fueled up and were back on our way again.

As we began driving we started talking about where we left off in our conversation. About this time we came upon a huge accident that appeared to have happened within the last 30 minutes. It was a multi car accident. Several cars were even turned over. Things at the scene did not look good for the people who were involved. At that moment my friend and I both looked at each other and realized if we would not have run out of gas it is very possible we would have been in this accident. I then told her if you ever questioned Jesus before, are you a full believer now? The answer was crystal clear.

I believe there are no coincidences in life. I believe in faith and Divine Intervention. It is easy to get frustrated when things do not go as we planned. Just remember the next time your are running late because of traffic, your plane has been delayed, a person you trust betrays you, or you share the same birthday with your best friend. Whether it is a lesson to be learned, a detour of protection, something better in store or meeting someone that will be a great friend throughout your life. Most likely God had his hand in it.
